The following are listed in order of skill level:

• Physician offices - Transcription of clinic or chart notes and patient correspondence.
• Clinic transcription - Specialty clinics such as outpatient surgery centers, plastic surgery clinics, emergency clinics and independent laboratories utilize transcription.
• Hospital radiology department - Transcription of radiology, nuclear medicine and imaging scans.
• Hospital pathology department - Transcription of gross and microscopic pathology reports, and autopsy reports.
• Hospital medical record department - Transcription of patient records such as history and physicals, consultations, operative reports, and discharge summaries.

 

The eSmartMed training curriculum thoroughly prepares someone for any of the above areas, including hospital medical records.

   

Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) is a non‑profit organization dedicated to furthering the profession of medical transcription.

 

In addition to the national AHDI organization, there are many local and state AHDI chapters who regularly hold area meetings and offer continuing education credits for attendance and participation. Membership dues and meeting registration fees are reimbursable for SmartMed employees.

 

Minimum education level – high school completion

• 60+ wpm keyboard speed
• Strong command and understanding of the English language
• Excellent grammar, punctuation and spelling skills
• Above-average reading and comprehension skills
• Ability to work independently without close supervision.
• Familiarity with MS Windows and Windows-based programs
• Basic computer skills such as the ability to load software and comprehend program installation instructions
• Familiar with basic internet and email functions.
