Advance Magazine reports the average annual salary of a medical transcriptionist as being $32,847, whereas certified medical transcriptionists average $43,551.

  • Hospital medical record department - Transcription of patient records such as history and physicals, consultations, operative reports, and discharge summaries.

Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) is a non‑profit organization dedicated to furthering the profession of medical transcription.

 

In addition to the national AHDI organization, there are many local and state AHDI chapters who regularly hold area meetings and offer continuing education credits for attendance and participation. Membership dues and meeting registration fees are reimbursable for SmartMed employees.

  • 60+ wpm keyboard speed
  • Strong command and understanding of the English language
  • Excellent grammar, punctuation and spelling skills
  • Above-average reading and comprehension skills
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Familiarity with MS Windows and Windows-based programs
  • Basic computer skills such as the ability to load software and comprehend program installation instructions
  • Familiar with basic internet and email functions.
